Operation Neptune
Operation Neptune was the code-name for the logistical operation to deliver 156,000 military personnel, vehicles, supplies, ammunition and medical care into Normandy France, from sea and from air.

Operation Overlord was the code-name used for the allied invasion from the Normandy beaches inland.

We start the day with a short drive to Portsmouth where we visit the D-Day museum which is Britain’s only museum dedicated to covering all aspects of the D-Day Landings in Normandy France on 6th June 1944. The museum tells the story of Operation Neptune, from planning and build up of the day itself using objects, interactive material and perspectives of people who were alive at the time, You will be given a greater understanding of the sacrifice which these people made to make Operation Neptune a success.

Following the Operation Neptune tour, we take the afternoon ferry from Portsmouth to Caen in Normandy France where we will arrive late evening and stay the night in the Normandy area in preparation of a busy Day 3 visiting numerous sites where the battles raged on 6th June 1944.

DAY 3

Your day will begin with retelling the story of America’s D-day from landing on Normandy beaches to the drop zones of the American Airborne.

It is recommended that you watch “The Longest Day” and at a minimum Saving Private Ryan’s beach scenes as this will give the day more context and understanding.

The itinerary of the day will include:

  • American Military cemetery
  • La Cambe German military cemetery
  • Angoville-au-Plain church
  • St Marie-du-Mont
  • Brecourt Manor
  • Utah Beach
  • St Marcouf/Crisbecq battery
  • Azeville battery
  • St Mere Eglise church square

This concludes your Normandy tours from England. If you would like to learn more about the American involvement in D Day, you can read more here at Wikipedia.
